Edith Cowan University (ECU) is an innovative university that prides itself on being relevant to the real world. The School of Business and Law at ECU also prides itself on delivering high quality teaching. In the Quality Indicators in Learning and Teaching (QILT) survey released in 2017, Business and Management at ECU placed number one in Australia for skills development and ranked among the top five universities in Australia for: teaching quality, student support, overall satisfaction and quality of experience. The School offers a comprehensive range of courses that meet industry and employer needs, delivering relevant theory, practical work experience and generic employability skills. Students have the option to study in any one of our undergraduate and postgraduate degrees across all main business disciplines, including: Accounting; Finance; Management; Human Resource Management; Marketing; Management Information Systems; Project Management; International Business; Entrepreneurship and Innovation; Supply Chain and Logistics Management; as well as two Master of Business Administration programs. We also offer a number of programs in the applied/specialist areas of: Tourism, Hospitality, Sport, and Event Management. The Law discipline offers the Bachelor of Laws (LLB), allowing entry at undergraduate and graduate level. All of our coursework programs can be studied full-time and part-time and students also have the option to study in face-to-face, and flexible on-line/external modes. The School also offers research programs across all of our disciplines at an Honours, Masters and PhD level.
As part of their studies our students have the opportunity to practically apply their skills and participate in international competitions. In 2017 both our Business and Law students have excelled at a national and international level. For the third year in a row an ECU Law student has placed at a top international mediation prize in Hong Kong, Iva Brnadic came runner up in the Young International Mediation Competition, competing against students from around Asia and India. Our Business students, as part of the Enactus ECU team, also achieved huge success, coming runners up in the 2017 Enactus National Competition. This year’s team was made up of all new team members who competed against 14 teams from around Australia. Last year the team won the National Championship, going on to represent Australia at the Enactus World Championships in Toronto, Canada. Enactus is a global not-for-profit organisation dedicated to inspiring university students to improve the world through entrepreneurial action.
The School is also proud of its research achievements and is committed to continuing its high quality and innovative applied research. We engage collaboratively with strategic partners, including industry partners, who provide an in-depth understanding of contemporary issues and are driven by a desire to solve these issues with research outcomes that have innovative and practical application in the real world. The School has three research centres, offering the following key areas of strength:
- Centre for Innovative Practice (CIP) – focuses on developing innovative practices across a wide range of professions and organisations within the business and legal sectors.
- Markets and Services Research Centre (MASRC) – focuses on research in areas of high economic impact with expertise in the services sector, encompassing financial markets and services, marketing and tourism.
- Centre for Work and Organisational Performance (CWOP) – focusses on research in the areas of work including; human resource management and employee relations, and organisational studies including; organisational behaviour, leadership, and industrial/organisational psychology.
